Beginning of The Journey

Beginning of The Journey

Pallishree, a combination of two Sanskrit words Palli & Shree basically means village or cluster of villages that are prosperous and enriched with resources and in other words more fulfilling villages. Some people in their youth who were dreaming of more fulfilling villages came together under the leadership of Mr. Prasanta Kumar Sahoo and formed Pallishree as a platform to think and act on it. This happened in a flood prone geography of Bramhani-Kelua deltaic region of Jajpur district, Odisha way back in the year 1987. It is needless to say, three decades back, majority of the villages were having rough and tough communication, inaccessible; and mostly an agrarian economy as main stay for living; with poor infrastructure and facilities. Poverty was at peak with poor literacy, poor health services and to say an indigent socio-economic condition. At times, the natural disasters like floods, cyclones, droughts and man-made disaster like fire and even the outbreaks of diseases supplemented the perpetuation of vulnerability in rural areas. Within that landscape, Pallishree started intervening and has been rendering its continuous services for the betterment of the society in various parts of Odisha.
