Areas of Intervention

Pallishree as an organization has always sought for meaningful solution to all emerging problem that affects the dignified living of marginal sections of people in the society. It beliefs in the fact that social capital is foundation for any development. Hence, ushering people’s organization has been primary focus for any development project / programme. To its credit it has formed several Village Development Committees, Village Disaster Management Committees, Pani Panchayats and user committees, Village WASH Committees, Farmers Cooperatives, Women SHGs, and Farmers Clubs like organizations in its operational area. As Pallishree works in flood plains of Jajpur District, It focuses around disaster response and enabling communities to combat/minimise disaster risks. Children and Women being most vulnerable in the society, it focuses on empowerment and development of both in various ways. Hence, working on health, education, social well-being, livelihood, disaster preparedness and climatic adaptations, capacity building of vulnerable populace constitutes the programme component of the organization.

Where We Work

Pallishree primarily works in rural pockets of Jajpur district since 1987. It has too moved other districts during emergencies. Plans are ahead to establish its branches in other districts.

Our Work High Lights

  • Successfully intervened in Emergency Response in 1999 (Super Cyclone), 2001 (Flood), 2003 (Flood), 2006 (Flood), 2008 (Flood), 2009 (Flood), 2011(Flood), 2013(Flood and cyclone Phailine Response), 2014(Flood) disasters in Jajpur district. We too have responded Phailin emergency in Ganjam and provided volunteer support in responding floods in Balasore, Bhadrak districts of Odisha and Supal in Bihar in 2008.
  • Formed a strong volunteer base who have expertise in Public Health, relief management and basic knowledge on first aid , search and rescue and trauma counselling.
  • Implemented Community Based DRR programme in vulnerable pockets of Bari and Dharmasala Blocks in Jajpur district.
  • Pioneered in school DRR programme and built up capacity of students in developing School Safety Plan, first aid plan.
  • Revived Minor Irrigation Projects and promoted water users’ association in Danagadi and Sukinda Block area.
  • Converged with District Water sanitation Mission and facilitated construction of IHL and school toilets in Danagadi, Sukinda and Bari Block area.
  • Built up capacity of GKS members in managing better public health at grass root level in Dharmasala and Danagadi Blocks of Jajpur District.
  • Working as Facilitating Organization for Minor Lift Irrigation Planning and Implementation Programme in Jajpur District.
  • Revived Lift Irrigation points which was lying defunct over years.
  • Functioned 15 Child Support Centers and 2 NCLP Schools in Dharmasala block.
  • Under renewable energy development Pallishree implemented Bio Gas Plants, Smokeless chullahs in Dharmasala Block of the district.
  • Provided 30 shallow bore-wells with KB pumps to small and marginal farmers. Also, provided deep bore wells with pump sets as minor irrigation supports to farmers groups.
  • Treated more than 500 acres of water logged land for early receding and cultivation.
  • As WASH model Pallishree constructed High Raised Tube-well platforms above HFL,Community Toilets, Women bathing place in Bari and Dharmasala Blocks of Jajpur District.
  • In late 80's, Pallishree initiated a farmers movement to combat water logging in Kelua-Genguti doab region which has been affecting 12000 acres of agricultural land. A peoples forum was initiated which later led the movement.
  • In those days, communication was a very difficult for the inhabitants of Bramhani-Kelua deltaic region and mostly people dependant on ferry boat at Kaema Ghat. Pallishree contributed to the people's movement for a bridge across river Kelua at Kaema. The people's movement succeeded and the bridge constructed and started functioning in the year 2005.
  • Pallishree initiated and led the district level forum for prevention of child labour under the aegis of CACL Odisha.
  • The organization also involved and contributed to the Life and Forest Movement Odisha, Right to Work and Right to Housing forum of Odisha.
  • Undertook for the first time a district level initiative on birth spacing and small family norm, prevention of diarrheal disease through water sanitation in collaboration with UNICEF, Bhubaneswar.
  • Took a lead role in organising the civil societies through formation of JDFVA at the district level and its coordination with SSS Odisha.
